Infection Control

How we protect our patients

Dental Infection Control
Putting instruments into a dental autoclave to sterilize them

Many people wonder how safe routine dental visits are.  At Lynchburg Family Dentistry, we pride ourselves on practicing exceptional infection control.

Many items at our dental office are single-use, such as the suction tips and air-water syringes.  We use a disposable adhesive to attach your patient bib, which prevents contamination (unlike the metal clips that were common in dental offices in the past).  Items that aren’t thrown away are either cleaned with a high-level disinfectant or sterilized in our autoclave.

We also thoroughly disinfect each dental room after every patient, using a high-level disinfectant that is effective at killing common disease-causing microorganisms such as Hepatitis A, B, and C, as well as HIV, Staph, and Tuberculosis.

Our dental instruments are rinsed, washed, rinsed again, and then packaged in sealable pouches before being cycled through our autoclave.  This effectively kills any remaining bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores.  Since we use sealed pouches, you can be confident that the instruments we use in your mouth are safe and sterile.
